Christoph was a publisher in Stuttgart, founder of the Engelhorn publishing firm. He was first a merchant, but later turned to book selling and established his independence in 1860. His activity as a publisher was concerned almost exclusively to the fields of art and high class literature. In 1863 he established the arts and crafts journal "Geweberhalle" which was still being published in 1925. A collective work of great scientific significance is the "Bibliothek Geographischer Handbucher" (Library of Geographical Handbooks.) "Engelhorns Allgemeine Roman-bibliothek" (Engelhorns General Library of Fiction), started in 1880, brought a collection of better high-class literature.
