Christina was remembered as a good wife and fond, indulgent mother. At the time of her death she had recently returned from Chicago were she had undergone operations for cataracts and had been left totally blind. "She was not long to continue in total darkness for death came to her relief at the local hospital."
Christina married Johann Thomas GRUBER, son of Johann Ferdinand GRUBER and Anna Katherine CHRIST, on 7 Jun 1862 in Lansing, Iowa. Johann was born 16 Oct 1836 in Altlussheim, Germany. He died 22 Jan 1918 in Lansing, Iowa and was buried in Lansing Ridge Cemetery, Allamakee County, Iowa.
Thomas Gruber came to America with the Gruber family at the age of 16 in 1852. They first settled in Ohio where they remained for about two years, moving to Lansing, Iowa, in about 1855.
He was recognized as an excellent farmer and was noted for his fine horses and well-kept farmstead which was on the order of a "show place." He even kept such exotics as peacocks. Thomas Gruber was short of stature but of stocky build and wore a goatee. He was a striking personality and a highly esteemed citizen of his community.
Thomas Gruber's farm was just north of that of his father-in-law, Jakob Engelhorn on Lansing Ridge, where they lived until the death of Christina in 1915.
They had 14 children:
William Gruber never married. Except for a few years in Oregon, William spent his entire life on the farm on Lansing Ridge.
Louis was born on the family farm on Lansing Ridge. He never married. He was a skilled woodworker who built coaches for the railroad. It is believed he also lived for some time in Tacoma, Washington. He died in a Minneapolis hospital following a two-week illness.
Theodore Gruber farmed most of his life in Allamakee County.
George was not married. He and his brother Theodore continued to work the family farm, although he was in Minneapolis at the time of Theodore's death in 1951.
Lizzie married Orrin James BEAN, son of Elijah Willard BEAN and Emeline WILLARD, on 14 Oct 1890 in Lansing, Iowa. Orrin was born 14 Nov 1853 in Sutton, Vermont. He died 17 Apr 1926 in Zellwood, Florida and was buried 18 Apr 1926 in Zellwood, Florida.
Following their marriage they moved to Gainsville, Florida where Orrin was in the fruit growing business. Their home was later in Zellwood, Florida.

Myrtie married Louise PARKER. Louis died 1943.
Annie married Joe STREAT.
Oscar married Pearl ADAMS.
John married Eleanor DUKE.
David married Myra Tanner YOUNG.
Eva married Willis P. HAMLIN on 13 Jun 1888 in Lansing, Iowa. Willis was born Jul 1867 in Lake Crystal, Minnesota.
He was a lumber dealer in 1900 Lake Crystal, Minnesota. He later ran a grocery store in Minneapolis.

Mary attended the local schools and lived all her life in Allamakee County.
Mary married William E. FRITZ, son of Louis FRITZ, on 24 Nov 1887 in Lansing, Iowa. William was born 16 Mar 1859 in Switzerland. He died 3 Dec 1928 in La Crosse, Wisconsin and was buried 6 Dec 1928 in Lansing, Iowa.
They made their home in the village of Churchtown on Lansing Ridge where William resided for the greater part of his life and operated a blacksmith shop. He later bought a farm on Mays Prairie.

Emma married Jacob ISELI, son of Fredolin ISELI and Magdalena LUCHSINGER, on 26 Apr 1898 in Lansing Ridge, Allamakee, Iowa. Jacob was born 10 Oct 1870 in Switzerland. He died 22 Dec 1932 and was buried in Lansing Ridge Cemetery, Allamakee County, Iowa.
Jacob emigrated in 1889 and became a citizen in 1895.

Thomas worked at one time for the C&NW Railroad.
Thomas married Selma J. YOOS, daughter of Henry YOOS and Rosene GLENSINGER, on 9 Sep 1903 in Lansing, Iowa. Selma was born 14 Nov 1888 in Churchtown, Iowa.

Ida married (1) Albert AMONDSON, son of Ole N. AMONDSON and Caroline ANDERSON, on 12 Sep 1906 in Waukon, Iowa. Albert was born 1861 in Eldon, Iowa. He died after Jan 1951.
Albert was a farmer in Allamakee County and later in North Dakota. At the time of his marriage to Ida he listed his occupation as laborer.

Anna married Jacob J. SPIELER Jr., son of Jacob SPIELER Sr. and Mary FELLER, on 27 Sep 1906 in Waukon, Iowa. Jacob was born 5 Mar 1874 in Lycurgus, Iowa. He died 1956.
Jacob Spieler attended the district school in Makee Township. He was numbered among the enterprising and progressive agriculturalists and a respected citizen of Allamakee county.
Jacob Spieler’s stepmother was Louisa Zimmerman whose older sister was Johanna who married Johann Thomas Engelhorn.

Frank was a hotel caretaker.

Lucy married Richard DERKMAN on 28 Dec 1955 in Mount Dora. Richard was born 23 Jan 1924 in Sun City, Florida.
Doris married Elton Merwin CROSSLAND on 21 Feb 1953 in Washington, D.C. Elton was born 30 May 1928 in Orono, Maine.
Eddie married Nancy Jane LEWIS on 7 Oct 1952 in Thomasville, Georgia. Nancy was born 20 Jun 1933 in Salem, Massachusetts.
William married (1) Faye Augusta ENGLISH on 2 Aug 1959. The marriage ended in divorce. Faye was born 13 Oct 1937 in Umatilla Florida.
William also married (2) Carolyn Ann BOWEN on 6 Jun 1991.
Hazel married (1) J.A. FORRISTER. The marriage ended in divorce.

Dewey married Marie PERSONA, daughter of Jon PERSONA and Marie DOUBEK, on 25 Jan 1927 in Waukon, Iowa. Marie was born 30 Dec 1905 in Budweis, Czechoslovakia. She died 20 Mar 1992 in Waukon, Iowa.

Charles retired from the U.S. Navy with 25 years of honorable service during which he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his military career he served with the USS Copahee CVE 12, 109th CBs Guam, M.L., USS Gen. G.M. Randall, USS De Haven DD 727, USS Picking DD 685, USS Kearsarge CVA 33, USS Lexington CVA 16, US Navcruitsta Chicago, USS Roosevelt CVA 42, USS Forrestal CVA 59, Inmam 15 Canal Zone, USS Cambria APA 36, and AMSU LCAB Norlfolk.
Following his military retirement, he worked for Horne Brothers Shipyard and QEd. He was a member of Brotherly Love Masonic Lodge No. 23 in Postville, Iowa.
Charles married Norma Jean GIBBS, daughter of Charley GIBBS and Edna Hazel COLE, on 18 May 1955 in Lansing, Iowa. Norma was born 2 Sep 1928 in Lansing, Iowa.
Robert married Jo Ann GLYNN, daughter of Ralph GLYNN and Magdalene E. OEHLI, on 14 May 1950 in Lansing, Iowa. Jo was born 1 Dec 1929 in Lansing.
